Why TPU film instead of tint spray

Aerosol lens tint is permanent. It goes on unevenly, it cannot be corrected without stripping the lens, and it is one of the fastest ways to fail an inspection with no way back.

TPU film is cut to the lens shape, heat-formed over its curve and applied as a single piece. It comes off cleanly, and while it is on, it takes the chips the lens would otherwise take. On a car with expensive LED or matrix headlights, that protection is worth more than the look.

Shades, and being honest about the law

Light smoke takes the edge off the lens and is barely noticeable at night. Medium smoke is the common choice. Heavy smoke and full blackout look dramatic parked and meaningfully reduce light output on the road.

California requires headlights and taillights to emit light of the required colour and intensity, and heavily tinted lenses can put a vehicle outside that. We will tell you which shades are sensible for a street car and which are show-only.

• Headlights — smoked or clear protective film. Clear PPF over a headlight is popular on its own, with no tint at all.
• Taillights — the most common request, and the one with the least effect on visibility.
• Fog lights and reflectors — usually matched to the headlights.
